Eight Springdale Public Schools students are among the 141 Arkansas high schoolers chosen from a pool of 16,000 seniors to be named semifinalists in the 71st annual National Merit Scholarship Program.

Four seniors each from Don Tyson School of Innovation and Har-Ber High School now compete for about 6,930 scholarships valued at almost $26 million that will be offered in the spring. Some 5,000 students, approximately 94%, of the semifinalists are expected to advance to the finalist level in February.

The National Merit Scholarship is awarded by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, which was established in 1955. The nonprofit's mission is to promote scholastic excellence and recognize academically talented students who show potential for success in college and beyond.

Over 1.3 million juniors from some 20,000 high schools entered the 2026 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2024 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. The 16,000 semifinalists represent less than 1% of high school seniors in the United States and include the highest-scoring entrants in each state.

Please help us celebrate this impressive accomplishment for these Springdale seniors.
