Smithsonian / National Air and Space Museum S.H.E. Can STEAM Summer Camp
Har-Ber High School
Springdale, AR
Monday, July 6 – Friday, July 17
Weekdays, 8:00 am - 4:00 pm
Each session will consist of 30 students. Lunch, snacks, and transportation to activities are provided.
Receive hands-on flight instruction on FAA certified simulators
Take off on a 30-minute discovery flight with a local flight school
Explore an aircraft mechanical school
Speak to experts in the commercial airspace and cyber security fields
Test aerodynamics in two indoor skydiving experiences
Launch a high-altitude weather balloon
And more!
Explorers with a passion for learning and aviation in grades six through eight are asked to submit an application. Students should live in DC, Maryland, Virginia, or Arkansas and must attend a Title I school or Title I eligible school or qualify for free or reduced lunches. Nominations should include the following:
A few sentences about why you’d like to participate
A recommendation from a teacher or community leader that speaks to your interest in aviation
Whether you attend a Title I school or qualify for free or reduced lunch
Applications will be accepted through April 30, 2020. Explorers selected for the camp will be notified by May 15, 2020.

Har-Ber Girl’s Basketball will hold tryouts for all newcomers on Thursday, March 19 from 4:30p-5:30p at Har-Ber Wildcat Arena. Students MUST have a current physical to participate in tryouts.

The dedication of the Har-Ber Park at Har-Ber High School included first pitches from Coach Ron Bradley on the baseball field and from Mike Luttrell on the softball field. New facilities and support for student athletes are another reason Springdale Public Schools are #THEChoice.





Congratulations to senior Madelyn Stout, editor-in-chief of The Wildcat yearbook, who has been named the 2020 Arkansas Journalists of the Year, sponsored by the Journalism Education Association. According to Justin Turner, Arkansas JEA State Director, "the hard work and journalistic skills that were personified in your portfolio were top notch." Madelyn will be recognized during the Arkansas Scholastic Press Association's spring convention April 14-15 in Jonesboro. Her portfolio will now be submitted to compete for the National Journalist of the Year title, which will be announced at the JEA/NSPA National Convention in Nashville April 16-18

Wildcat Families,
On Monday and Tuesday (3/9 & 3/10), Har-Ber High School will host Student Led Conferences. These will be held from 4:15-7:30. Families will begin meeting with the student's Advisor. During the evening, families will have the opportunity to make a final review of courses selected for the 2020-2021 school year. Parents will also have the opportunity to visit with teachers about grades.
We will also host a Senior Parent Meeting each evening at 6:00 in the Seminar Room. We will discuss important information relating to graduation (i.e. last day for seniors, Senior Celebration, graduation practice, graduation, scholarships, etc.).
We look forward to seeing you on Monday and Tuesday!

Congratulations to the Har-Ber FCCLA students that competed at State STAR Events this week! Three HBHS students will advance to the national competition this summer. Below is a summary of the results.
Lacy Stephens competed in Public Policy Advocate and won GOLD!
Presley Shelton and Zach Catlett competed in Event Management and won SILVER!
Tabitha Nichols will also be going to Nationals for being elected as the FCCLA District 1 President and Elle Reed will go and represent Har-Ber High and Arkansas as a newly inducted FCCLA State Vice President of Membership! Elle will be in charge of planning the Arkansas meetings at the National Convention.
The Har-Ber High FCCLA Chapter was also awarded Gold Star Chapter status as well as being awarded a Platinum Level State Project Award for all of the community service they have done, their participation at the District and State Level, and for their ability to recruit and maintain members!
We are proud of these students. Mrs. Rooney, the FCCLA Sponsor, was awarded the Arkansas FCCLA Master Advisor Award for 2019-2020.

Congratulations to the Lady Wildcats and the Wildcats for an excellent regular season of basketball. Now, the state playoffs begin. The Lady Wildcats won 20 games this season and placed 3rd in conference. The Wildcats placed 1st in the conference. We are proud of both teams!
The Lady Wildcats will play Wednesday at 4:00 against Mount St. Mary Academy. The Wildcats will play on Thursday at 5:30 against the winner of the Central/Bentonville West game. Both games will be played in Bryant.

The Wildcats will be competing on Saturday at 9am at the Bentonville Community Center for the 6A State Swim & Dive Title.
Sarah Pope, David Wallace, Emily Reaves, Saylor Wilson will all be competing in two individual events along with two relays.
Abigail Livingston earned a spot to compete in the 100 back and all three relays. Lucas Schaben, Anna Claire Marvin, Max Simmons, Bryce Coulter all earned spots on the relays.
Best of luck to these Cats! Hope to see everyone there cheering them on.

Two teams will be completing virtual business events at the national competition.
Also, Jax Nalley and Samantha Lewandowski were named state officers. Go Har-Ber!

Last week, students in Mr. Roberts' Greenhouse Management class toured Westwood Gardens and learned about careers in the industry.
