Har-Ber High School and local colleges will offer FREE workshop sessions to help SENIORS and SENIOR PARENTS with the FAFSA.

This information is valuable no matter where the student is planning to attend college.

Dates and times to be announced.

FAFSA Info (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) opens in mid-December.

The application for state aid will open October 1.

Note: Seniors and parents each must create a FAFSA ID prior to the workshops to be able to complete the FAFSA.

Financial Aid Information and the FAFSA

The financial aid resources provided by HBHS Counseling Staff are available at no cost to you. You should not have to pay for financial aid or scholarship information.

How much does college cost? Each college is required to have a Cost of College Calculator on their Financial Aid webpage to help determine total costs of attending.

What is Financial Aid and how do I apply? StudentAid.gov THIS IS FREE! Do NOT pay money on a .com site!!

  • Financial Aid is determined by a government set formula and is accessed by submitting the FAFSA (The FREE Application for Federal Student Aid).

  • Financial Aid may include Pell Grants, Work Study Programs, Low Interest Loans, Scholarships, and other Grants.

  • Financial Aid is money that supplements the family contribution to pay for college.

  • The FAFSA Online can be accessed at any time.

  • The FAFSA Forecaster feature predicts the amount of financial aid eligibility.

  • Students and parents must create a user name and password. It is recommended you do this in the fall.

  • The FAFSA should be submitted as soon as possible after it opens in mid December.

  • The current year income tax return provides the information for the FAFSA.

  • The Financial Aid Offices of the college(s) designated by the student will receive the student's FAFSA information.

  • The colleges know you are interested in financial aid and scholarships when they receive your FAFSA information.

  • The college Financial Aid Offices are an excellent source of information for families needing assistance.

  • After your FAFSA is processed, you will receive a "FAFSA Submission Summary" from them notifying you of financial aid eligibility and the amount.

  • You must respond to your award notice to confirm acceptance.

  • The HBHS Counseling Staff hosts several "How to Pay for College" Financial Aid Workshops during the school year and has many resources in the Counseling Center.
